HOW WE ARE RECYCLING TEXTILES . .
We have been working on simulating
a circular, soft textile program!
From reconstruction to re-spinning, we are working towards a zero-waste workshop.
Since July 2023 we have been collecting fabric off-cuts from manufacturers, and second-hand clothing from textile contributors in Otautahi.
Then we sort by size, fibre content, colour, knit or woven. The categories help prepare it for the next step of re-construction.
To help students and emerging artists we fulfill fabric requests (for free), what's left is then re-made (in-house) into apparel and homeware. (The workshop is just in the early stages of being set up.)
Our first product line is the laundry sack, small (tote) medium (backpack) large (laundry)
Since July 2023 we have diverted over 1000kg of textiles destined for landfill to local creatives, and developed our own recycling program, with help from fashion students and graduates!
currently accepting:
-Factory off-cuts
-End of line rolls
-Second-hand fabrics
We hope in the near future to accept public fabric donations, and second hand clothing.
If you construct using soft textiles and wish to reduce waste in the process, let us know your fabric preferences and we will be in touch!
